Direct Primary Care in Overland Park: How Membership Care Works

You wait weeks for a visit that lasts a few minutes. Direct primary care works differently. Here is what a membership includes, and what it does not replace.

You call to get seen, and the next opening is a month away. When you finally get in, the visit ends before you get through your list. A follow-up question means another appointment, another copay, and another wait.

That usually isn't your doctor's fault. It's how insurance-based primary care gets paid for. Direct primary care removes the billing middleman, so the time goes back to you.

What direct primary care is

Direct primary care, often called DPC, is primary care you pay for with a membership instead of billing insurance for each visit. Your membership covers your ongoing care with the same provider. No claim has to be filed, so billing codes don't decide how your visit goes. What you need decides it.

At EvoHealth, primary care is led by Brianna Cole, DNP, APRN, FNP-C.

What changes when insurance is out of the room

Visits run as long as they need to. If you come in with three concerns, you can cover all three.

You can be seen the same week. For urgent concerns, that is often the same or next day.

You can message your provider directly. Many questions can be handled without a visit at all, like a new rash, a confusing lab result, or a medication side effect.

Ongoing conditions get checked as often as they need to be, not on a schedule set by your plan. You also see the same provider each time, someone who already knows your history.

What your membership includes

Your membership includes visits, medical decision-making, direct messaging with your provider, and diagnostic lab testing. It starts with an extended first visit that reviews your full health history, not just the one thing that brought you in.

Imaging and medications are arranged separately. You can use HSA and FSA funds for eligible care, and superbills are available on request.

What it does not replace

This part matters, so here it is plainly: a DPC membership is not insurance.

You still need coverage for hospital stays, surgery, emergencies, and specialist care. Many members pair their membership with a high-deductible plan or a health share. For some families, that combination costs less overall than a traditional plan. Whether it does for you depends on your coverage and how often you use care, so it's worth running your own numbers.

If you need a specialist, you get a referral with your history and test results sent along. Your specialist starts with the full picture instead of starting from scratch.

Who it tends to suit

DPC tends to fit you if you want a provider you can actually reach. It also makes sense if you have a high-deductible plan and already pay out of pocket for routine care. If you manage an ongoing condition like high blood pressure, thyroid disease, or prediabetes, you get the closer follow-up it needs. It works well if you're self-employed or between employer plans, or if you want one care team for your whole family.

It may matter less to you if you rarely need care and you're happy with the access you have now.

How it fits with the rest of EvoHealth

DPC covers your everyday care: sick visits, checkups, ongoing conditions, and routine labs. Some members also use functional health, longevity care, hormone therapy, or medical weight loss at EvoHealth. When you do, everything lives in one chart. The provider treating your sinus infection also knows your hormone plan and your latest labs.

Common questions

Is direct primary care the same as concierge medicine?

The two overlap, since both use a membership. Many concierge practices still bill insurance on top of the fee. Direct primary care doesn't bill insurance for your primary care visits.

Can I use my HSA or FSA?

You can use HSA and FSA funds for eligible care. Ask about your situation on your first call, and superbills are available if you need them.

What if I already have a doctor?

Bring your records. Your first visit reviews your history, so you won't start over.
