Chronic Fatigue

Fatigue is a presentation rather than a diagnosis, so thyroid, mitochondrial, adrenal and nutrient contributors are assessed together.

Lasting exhaustion is almost never one problem. It is several working together, which is why a single thyroid number or vitamin level explains so little of it. We read how your thyroid, your mitochondria, your stress-hormone axis, and your metabolic and immune systems interact — and most people turn out to have more than one thing running at once.

Thyroid disease, and poor conversion of T4 — the storage form of thyroid hormone — into active T3. Mitochondrial problems and CoQ10 depletion, affecting how your cells make energy. Low iron, B12, magnesium or carnitine. Reduced cortisol output through the HPA axis, the stress circuit between brain and adrenal gland. Blood sugar swings and insulin resistance. And infection that never cleared, including long COVID.

Support for cellular energy production where it is indicated — CoQ10, acetyl-L-carnitine, PQQ, alpha-lipoic acid, NAD+ precursors and adaptogens. Food that steadies your blood sugar. Getting your body clock back in line, and Zone 2 conditioning — steady aerobic work — built to the capacity you have now rather than the one you used to have. Your sleep and stress matter as much as the supplements.

Full thyroid function: TSH, free T4, free T3 and reverse T3. Cortisol measured across the day rather than in one morning draw. Organic acid testing, which reads how your cells are producing energy. Ferritin and hs-CRP. Fatigue can also point somewhere else entirely — to cardiology, a sleep laboratory or oncology — and if your workup points there, that is what you will be told.

Your fatigue workup runs inside Functional Health, where the assessment, your written protocol and the retesting all live. Start with the free fifteen-minute consultation.

Common questions

The ones we are asked most about chronic fatigue.

Because normal means you fall inside a range built from a whole population, which is a long way from working well. The markers that move first are usually the ones nobody ordered.

Most often poor thyroid conversion, mitochondrial problems and low CoQ10, low iron, B12, magnesium or carnitine, reduced cortisol, blood sugar swings, or an infection that never cleared. Most people have several at once — which is why one-thing-at-a-time never worked.

A free fifteen-minute consultation, then a full fatigue assessment with Dr. Tanner Wilson or Brianna Cole — in Overland Park, or by video anywhere in Kansas and Missouri.
