BHRT in Overland Park: Evidence-Based Hormone Therapy for Women and Men

Bioidentical hormone therapy gets discussed more than it gets explained. What the evidence supports for women and men, and how dosing is monitored.

Hormones touch nearly every system you have: metabolism, sleep, mood, libido, bone density, muscle mass, energy, and cognition. When they shift with age, stress, metabolic dysfunction, or a transition like menopause or andropause, the symptoms are easy to file under normal aging and leave alone.

Sometimes that is the right call. Often it is not, and the difference is a testable question rather than a matter of opinion.

What BHRT actually is

Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy uses hormones structurally identical to the ones your body produces. When levels fall or the balance shifts, replacing them can restore function across several systems at once.

What it is not is a prescription written off symptoms alone. Hormone levels get measured, metabolic health gets assessed, and cardiovascular and bone markers get reviewed before anyone decides on hormone type, dose, or delivery route.

For women

Hormone therapy remains the most effective option for hot flashes, night sweats, and temperature regulation through perimenopause and menopause. The knock on effects matter as much as the comfort. Sleeping through the night again tends to normalize appetite regulation, steady glucose metabolism, and lower inflammation.

Estrogen deficiency also drives vaginal dryness, irritation, urinary urgency, and recurrent infections, and localized therapy restores tissue integrity for many women. Estrogen is central to bone density too, so therapy slows age related bone loss and reduces fracture risk, particularly alongside strength training.

Many women report better mood, sleep, and focus. Responses vary here more than they do for hot flashes, and it is worth saying so plainly rather than promising it.

Delivery route is a real clinical decision, not a preference. Transdermal patches and gels produce steadier levels and carry a different risk profile than oral delivery, which is part of what gets weighed against your history.

For men

In men with confirmed low testosterone, therapy supports libido, sexual function, muscle strength, energy, and mood. The word confirmed is doing real work in that sentence. Treatment follows proper testing and a symptom assessment, not a hunch about how you feel at forty five.

Testosterone influences muscle mass, fat distribution, and recovery, so restoring it to physiologic levels supports lean mass and exercise tolerance, which feed back into metabolic health. It also supports bone integrity and, combined with diet and resistance training, healthy glucose and lipid metabolism.

Monitoring is not optional. Hematologic, cardiovascular, and metabolic markers get followed for as long as you are on therapy.

How it is run here

Brianna Cole, DNP, APRN manages hormone therapy at EvoHealth, working alongside Dr. Tanner Wilson, DC, IFMCP on the metabolic side. Assessment covers full hormone panels, metabolic markers, and cardiovascular and bone indicators rather than age and symptoms.

Therapy works better with the rest of the plan in place, which means nutrition that supports metabolic regulation, resistance training for muscle and bone, and sleep that lets hormone signaling recover. Levels, biomarkers, and symptoms get rechecked on a schedule, and doses change as your physiology does.

Who it suits, and who it does not

It tends to suit women with moderate to severe menopausal symptoms, men with confirmed testosterone deficiency, and people whose fatigue, libido changes, mood disturbance, bone loss, or sleep problems track with a documented hormone decline.

It does not suit everyone. Certain cancers, clotting disorders, and cardiovascular histories change the risk calculation, and some people are better served by addressing sleep, insulin resistance, or thyroid function first. If that is your situation, you will be told, and you will be offered what does fit instead.
